Vishwa Gou Sammelana (World Cow Conference) will be held in Ramachandrapura math in Hosnagara taluk of Shimoga District from April 21 to 29 under the guidance of his holiness Sri Sri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swamiji, who is the 36th pontiff of the 1200 year old math established by Jagadguru Shankaracharya. The Gou Sammelana, which is supposed to be the first in its kind in the world aims to protect and promote the native i.e., the so called desi cow breeds, many of which are now on the verge of extinction. Amrutha Mahal, used by kings of mysore, Gharparker from Rajasthan, Ongole from Andhra and Vechur of kerala origin are just some of the rare breeds of cows to be showcased in the event.
Seminars and discussions have been organised to focus on environmental, economic, agricultural and spiritual benefits of rearing Indian breed cattle. Apart from seers from different part of the country, scientists, agriculturists, leaders and cow experts from various parts of the world will be participating in the event. Around 50 lakh people have been expected to witness this festival.
The event will be preceded by Kamadhenu Mahayajna for 121 days which commenced on 25 Dec 2006. The event includes the display of paintings and poems related to cow, a food festival to promote the rich variety of milk based Indian cow products and also Go-Thulabara i.e., offering precious items equivalent to the weight of the cow. People who have contributed to the well fare of the cow will be facilitated with the ‘Gopala Gowrava’ awards.
This once in a lifetime event with the theme ‘Vande Gomatharam‘ is all set to unite people from different casts and languages on the moral grounds of protecting and promoting Indian breed cattle.
