March 15th, 2008 — Blogs, Karnataka
Pranathi publications has organized a Kannada bloggers meet in Bangalore on Sunday 16th of March. As for as i know this is supposed to be the first in it’s kind for the online Kannada writers or bloggers. With the increasing use of Internet & English, there is a greater need for the use of Kannada & other Indian languages in the online world to reach a wider number of geographically dispersed young population & to keep the stream of literature flowing. These kinds of events are sure to help the bloggers to meet & share their thoughts with other like minded people. This in turn can help the bloggers to take their blogs to the next level. I will also be attending this meet with same intention. Though, i don’t have a Kannada blog, some of my posts are related to Kannada & Karnataka.
Venue : Indian Institute Of World Culture, Basavangudi, Bangalore
Date: 16th March 2008
Time: 4 PM
BTW, i came to know about this meet from
OnebyTwo Mahesh Malnad. Thanks for the info Malnad.
Update:
The bloggers meet witnessed a pretty good turnout from the Kannada bloggers community in Bangalore. More than 100 bloggers took part in the meet. The event lasted for about 3 hours. There were talks by
Pavanaja,
Hariprasad Nadig,
Abdul Rashid &
Shamsunder about the use of Kannada in the Internet and some technical pros & cons associated with it. In particular, Pavanaja’s talk on how he started using the Kannada on the net way back in 1996 was very enlightening to the audience. For all don’t knows over here, Dr. Pavanaja is the person behind Vishwakannada.com which is supposed to be the first Kannada portal on the World Wide Web. The organizers from Pranathi gave an estimation that currently there are around 350 active Kannada Blog’s on the net. As I mentioned earlier, the most important part of the meet was networking, which helped the like minded bloggers to get to know each other. Pranathi deserves applauds for organizing this meet which was first of its kind for the Bangalore Kannada Bloggers.
December 13th, 2005 — Karnataka
Karnataka was called as Karunadu (elevated land) in ancient times. The course of Karnataka’s history and culture takes us back to pre-historic times. The earliest find of the stone age period in India was a hand axe at Lingasugur in Raichur district. The Ashoka’s rock edicts found in the state indicate that major parts of Northern Karnataka were under the Mauryas. Chandragupta Maurya, the great Indian emperor abdicated the throne and embraced Jainism at Shravanabelagola. Adding new dimensions to the cultural and spiritual ethos of the land, many great dynasties left their imprint upon the aesthetic development of Karnataka’s art forms. Prominent among them were the Chalukyas, the Hoysalas and the mighty Vijayanagara Empire.
The Chalukyan’s built some of the very early Hindu temples in India. Aihole turned up as an experimental base for the dynamic creations of architects. The Hoysala’s who ruled from the 11th to the 13th century chiseled their way into the pages of glory by building more than 150 temples, each one is a master piece in its own way. The amazing dexterity and fluidity of expressions at Somnathpur, Halebid and Belur open themselves to the wide eyed wonder in one’s eyes. Vijayanagara, the greatest of all medieval Hindu empires and one of the greatest the world over, fostered the development of intellectual pursuits and fine arts. “The eye of the pupil has never seen a place like it and the ear of intelligence has never been informed that there existed anything to equal it in the world” is what Abdur Razaaq the Persian ambassador had to say about Krishnadevaraya’s time.

Tipu Sultan Tomb, Karnataka Travel AgentsThe Vijayanagara empire with its capital at Hampi fell a victim to the marauding army of the Deccan Sultan in 1565 A.D. As a consequence of this, Bijapur became the most important city of the region. This city is a land of monuments and perhaps no other city except Delhi has as many monuments as Bijapur. The Bahmani Shahis and the Adilshahis of Bijapur have played a notable part in the history of Karnataka by their contribution to the field of art and architecture and also by their propagation of Islam in the state.

Hyder Ali and his valiant son Tipu Sultan are notable figures in the history of the land. They expanded the Mysore kingdom on an unprecedented scale and by their resistance against the British, became personages of world fame. Tipu was a great scholar and lover of literature. His artistic pursuits were also many and he made rich gifts to the Hindu temples. Tipu Sultan “Tiger of Karnataka” was killed in 1799 A.D., and the Mysore throne was handed over to the Wodeyar’s. The whole of Karnataka came under the control of the British in the beginning of the 19th century. The new state was named as new Mysore and the Maharaja of Mysore was appointed Governor by Independent India. This unified state was renamed as Karnataka on November 1, 1973.

EDONDU DRUSHYA KAVYA,ILLI SAAHITYA PAATRAVAHISI, SANGITA ABINAYISIDE
I think above 2 lines are sufficient to describe the film in short. Lyrics,Music,Cinematography & Direction are the things that make this film a memorable one.
Yesterday I saw this movie with 2 of my friends(Chandru & pradeep) in NANDA theatre. Definitely the movie lives up to expectations as there was lot of talk about it much before its release.
After a long gap of 2 years, SANGEETA BRAHMA Hamsaleka has given a musical treat for audience. The Lyrics and Music together play an important role in the movie as i mentioned earlier. All the Songs are very melodious. My favourite song is ‘Indu baanigella habba’ which has got a good lyrics. Hamsaleka has described Love as an issue between 2 hearts through his following lines,
Naavaagali Neevagali,
Geleyaraagali Balagavaagali
Gurugalaagali Rushigalagali,
Devaraagali dindaraagali Taleturiso haagilla
BECAUSE………
IDU HRUDAYAGALA VISHAYA, E VISHAYA VISHA VISHAYA
Although there is not much new in story, director Ratnaja has succeeded in giving a new look and feel togather. There is not even a single scene which you can feel boring. There is no violence or vulgarity of any kind.Credit must also go the National award winner H.M Ramachandra for giving us a top class cinematography. He has pasteurized all the scenes very beautifully.

It’s a one to one love story which later turns into a triangular love story. Actingwise both Prem and naveen krishna have done a neat job. Out of two heroines Vidya has done a good job. Varsha could have performed much better. Sharan’s comedy has worked well. Other actors including Anant nag & Jai jagdish have done justice to their roles.
Overall, a neat & complete family entertainer which has all the ability to bring the yesteryear’s film buffs(now a days keep themselves busy in watching TV serials) back to the theaters. Congrats to Ajay Gowda & team for giving such a wonderful movie for the kannada audience.
